Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 July 2026
Climbek is built so your climbing life stays yours. There is no account, no tracking, and no advertising. Your data lives on your device and, if you choose, in your own private iCloud - never on a server I control. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what that means.
01 Who I am
Climbek is an independent app for iPhone and Apple Watch, made and operated by Karol Trociński, an individual developer based in Poland (the “developer”, “I”, “me”). For any question about this policy or your data, contact support@climbek.app.
02 The short version
- Climbek has no account and no login. I never ask for your name, email, or identity to use the app.
- Your climbing data is stored on your device, and synced through your own private iCloud if you have iCloud enabled. Only you can read it.
- I do not run any analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs. I do not sell or share your data with anyone.
- Health, location, and photo data never leave your device and your private iCloud. They are never sent to a server I operate.
03 Health & workout data (Apple Health)
If you grant permission, Climbek uses Apple’s HealthKit to make your climbing sessions richer:
- It reads heart rate and active energy recorded during a session so it can show them alongside that session.
- It writes your climbing sessions to Apple Health as workouts, so they appear in your Health and Fitness activity.
Your Health and workout data is used only on your device to display and record your sessions. It is never sent to any server I operate, never used for advertising or marketing, and never shared with third parties, in line with Apple’s HealthKit requirements. You can grant or revoke this access at any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Climbek.
04 Location data
If you grant permission, Climbek uses your location to tag where you climbed and to show your climbing spots on a map. Location is used to save and display your own climbing locations - it is stored with your climbing data on your device and in your private iCloud, and is never sent to me or to any third party.
Location is entirely optional. You can decline it, and still enter locations by hand. You can change this permission any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Climbek.
05 Photos
You can attach a photo to a climbing session. Photos you add are stored together with your session data on your device and in your private iCloud. They are not uploaded to any server I control, and are not used for any purpose other than showing them back to you in the app.
06 Where your data lives
Climbek stores your sessions, climbs, projects, milestones, grip-training records, notes, locations, and photos in a local database on your device.
If you have iCloud enabled on your device, this data also syncs through your private iCloud database, held in your personal Apple account. This is what keeps your journal consistent across your iPhone and Apple Watch. This data sits in Apple’s iCloud infrastructure under your Apple ID and Apple’s security; the developer has no access to it and cannot see your climbing data. If you prefer, you can turn iCloud off for Climbek in your device settings and keep everything on-device only.
07 Backups you control
Climbek lets you export your entire journal to a single backup file and import it again later. Where that file is stored - on your device, in Files, or in a cloud drive of your choosing - is entirely up to you, and it is your responsibility to keep it safe. I never receive a copy.
08 What I do not collect
- No account, email, name, or password.
- No advertising identifiers and no third-party advertising.
- No third-party analytics, tracking, or behavioural profiling SDKs.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your data with anyone.
09 Crash reports & diagnostics
Climbek does not include any crash-reporting or analytics SDK. If your device’s Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements → Share With App Developers is switched on, Apple may share anonymised, aggregated crash and performance diagnostics with the developer through App Store Connect. These reports are provided and controlled by Apple, contain no Health data and no content you entered, and you can turn them off at any time in that setting.
10 Third parties
The only third party involved is Apple, which provides the operating system, HealthKit, and the iCloud infrastructure your private data syncs through. Apple’s handling of that data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. There are no other third parties, no data brokers, and no marketing partners.
11 Your rights (GDPR)
Because Climbek keeps your data on your own device and in your own iCloud, you are always in direct control of it. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Polish law you have the right to:
- Access your data - it is all visible in the app.
- Rectify it - edit or correct any entry at any time.
- Erase it - delete individual entries in the app, delete the app, and remove Climbek’s data from iCloud in your device settings.
- Portability - export your full journal to a backup file whenever you like.
- Withdraw consent - revoke Health or Location access at any time in your device settings, without affecting the rest of the app.
Where any processing relies on a legal basis, it is your consent (for Health and Location access) or the developer’s legitimate interest in providing the app’s core features. Since your data does not reach a server I control, most requests are things you can carry out directly on your device. If you need help, contact support@climbek.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority - in Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).
12 Children
Climbek is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children. The app requires no account and gathers no identifying information, so no age data is collected.
13 Data retention
Your data is kept for as long as you keep it. Deleting an entry removes it; deleting the app removes its on-device data; removing Climbek’s data from iCloud in your device settings removes the synced copy. I hold nothing of yours to retain or delete on my side.
14 Security
Your data is protected by your device’s security and, when synced, by Apple’s iCloud security. Please note that no method of electronic storage or transmission is ever completely secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security. Keeping your device and Apple ID protected is an important part of keeping your journal private.
15 Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always live on this page with an updated date at the top. If a change is significant, I will make a reasonable effort to highlight it.
